I found a photograph I had taken while in Hawkshead last autumn and thought it might make an attractive watercolour, this is the finished result. The unmounted size is 38 x 17 cm (15 x 7 inches in old money)
Detail from painting (I am afraid that I didn't take such a good photo of this painting).

These guys looked like they were having a lot of fun, irresistable to paint! The unmounted size is 38 x 17 cm (15 x 7 inches in old money)

There was an open air art show in the local Square a couple of weeks ago when the weather was very sunny and I decided to give it a go, it is my first try at a panoramic painting but I really like the the shape of the wider paper.
This painting will be on display in Fylde Gallery from 31st July 2010 to 31st August 2010.
The exhibition will open at 6.30pm on Saturday 31st July 2010 at Haven Road, Lytham, Lancashire. FY8 5EG.
I took lots of reference photos and I took along a little sketchbook to get some tonal values and to help me select the most interesting aspects of the scene.
Its a bit difficult to show the whole image properly because of the shape but here is a detail from it, the whole painting is 11 x 30 inches (28 x 76 cm) unmounted.

Lytham, which is just a couple of minutes down the road from St Annes, has taken great care to maintain the 'olde worlde' feel of their shopping centre, this painting shows a small section of the charming and characterful shopping area of Lytham, which has a totally different feel to St Annes.

I have been trying out a new style of painting recently using watercorlour and I am very happy with the result, so I intend to do most of my future watercolour paintings in this style.
